…A visceral love for this land, passed down from generation to generation…

How a company achieved remarkable growth

The estate belonged to the great-grandfather of Biagio Bonfiglio, founder of Cantine Bonfiglio, who had used it as a citrus grove at a time (the 1980s) when citrus fruits still had a significant economic impact. In the early 21st century, almost for fun, Biagio decided to plant a few grapevines. He soon realized that continuing on that path could add value to the business and further characterize a territory that was yielding unexpected fruits. So, he decided to move forward: he uprooted a large portion of the citrus grove and converted it into a vineyard with native varieties of Faro DOC,wine produced within the territory of the Municipality of Messina: Nerello Mascalese, Nocera, Nerello Cappuccio, Nero d’Avola.

Achieve long-term success with smart strategies.

Nel 2009 Antonio Bonfiglio, figlio di Biagio, dopo la devastante alluvione Di Giampilieri che distrusse praticamente tutto il vigneto, decide di affiancare il padre in maniera significativa Seeing so much pain in my father’s eyes hurt me....”

The reaction to this catastrophe was marked by unimaginable determination. Together, they rolled up their sleeves, starting virtually from scratch and boosting technological inputs.

Indeed, like a phoenix, the company rises from its own ashes and rebuilds, albeit with difficulty, what had seemed lost forever. Furthermore, the Bonfiglios initiate orographic studies and hydrogeological analyses to determine how to design drainage systems capable of channeling water away from the land.

Antonino Bonfiglio : «The lockdown prompted me to reflect: I asked myself, if we aren't the first to step up and drive progress, who else will do it in our place?

Vineyards suspended between sea and mountains

Today, Cantine Bonfiglio boasts a setup comprising one and a half hectares of vineyards distributed across the Peloritani territory, spanning from Contrada Gramino in Briga (at 50 meters above sea level) to the Piano Cuturi area in Giampilieri (at an altitude of 120 meters), offering unique landscapes. It is one of the few wineries to feature a fully integrated production chain, encompassing every stage: grape cultivation, manual harvesting, vinification, storage, bottling, aging, and marketing.
